Upper-Eyelid Surgery: What Is a Peripheral Vision Test?
The Peripheral Vision Test is designed to determine how much your sagging upper eyelids are obscuring your peripheral vision and whether or not upper-eyelid surgery will provide any improvement. The patient’s peripheral vision will be analyzed while the upper eyelids are in their natural position. It will also be tested while they are held up with tape.
If the patient’s field of vision is improved by a certain percentage when the results of the two tests are compared, it indicates that upper-eyelid surgery will improve the patient’s quality of life and can be covered by their insurance. If not, the procedure will be considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance.
