Liposuction is a popular and effective fat removal procedure that helps to contour your body—leaving you with a leaner, well-toned physique. However, liposuction is not intended to be a substitute for a healthy lifestyle. Many of our patients at Beyond Beautiful are surprised to learn that post-liposuction, there is a high probability of regaining weight if one does not maintain healthy habits.

While the fat cells that are removed by liposuction will not return—if one gains a substantial amount of weight, the remaining fat cells can expand and cause one to appear heavier.

Tips to Keep in Mind

Liposuction Does Not Remove Toxic Fat

Our bodies have two forms of fat—visceral and subcutaneous. Targeting subcutaneous fat, liposuction removes the fat directly beneath the skin. Not accessible by liposuction, visceral fat lies deep inside and forms around our organs. The more harmful of the two, visceral fat also produces and releases a biochemical substance that is known to increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Homeostasis

Homeostasis is the body’s method of keeping internal stability–whether that be a steady body temperature or a consistent body weight. In regard to weight, your body tries to maintain a consistent weight over an extended period of time. Thus, following liposuction, your body will want to get back to the higher weight that it is used to.

Exercise Is Important

Liposuction only addresses the underlying layer of fat—not improving upon skin or muscle tone. Exercise increases the metabolism and helps build muscle mass. Boost your metabolism with a short 20 to 30 minute cardio session. While everyone recovers at a different pace—most of our patients can return to their exercise routine four to six weeks after their liposuction procedure. Dr. Khattab will work closely with you to ensure your body is ready.
